PRO TIP 2. Get yourself a workout buddy!! . This is KEY. Of course there are days I prefer to pop in my headphones and have my alone time but on the days where I’m not super excited to workout, tired or need something new to try, I love having a friend to workout with. Even having a friend in the gym doing our own thing can motivate me more to crank out my workout. . Today we each did our own workouts then can together to finish with a full-body EMOM🤪 . Today’s EMOM: 1. Body weight squats- 20x 2. Burpees- 10x 3. Full range sit-ups- 25x 4. Pushups- 10x REPEAT 4x . For people who don’t know how an EMOM works, it’s called “Every Minute On the Minute” because you start a stopwatch and you have a minute to complete each of the exercises. Whatever time left in the minute after completing required reps is your rest time before the next exercise starts. A question I get asked all the time: “what should I do as an at-home workout?” I think people are often overwhelmed by this predicament for a couple reasons. One, maybe there’s a lack of inspiration. Also, with all of the fancy pants workouts floating around on the internet with people doing one leg push-ps while standing on their head (what?), perhaps it SEEMS like your at-home workout should look a certain way. I say, KEEP IT SIMPLE. At least to start. Here’s a series of exercise you can do with minimal to zero equipment. Side note: Pardon the horrible video quality. PRO TIP 1. If you don’t take care of your mental health, none of the rest matters! . It took me a long time to learn this one. I was constantly telling myself things like, “Once you look like that THEN you will be happy”, “Once you lose weight THEN you will be happy”, “Once you buy that item THEN you will be happy”, “Once your skin is clear THEN you will be happy”. All of these things are temporary happiness. . It wasn’t until I took a step back and realized I wasn’t present in my daily life. I was always trying to get somewhere else and never content. . Today, take a deep breath and think about all of the things you are grateful for. Everyone is in a different place in their journey and that is entirely OKAY. One of my favorite sayings my dad would tell me while growing up and while teaching me the ropes to working out (and truly disguising life lessons within the gym), was “if you can do it once, you can do it ten times.” To this day it still inspires me 🏋🏽‍♀️ It was not only meant to push me to repping weights that I could barely do once, to eventually ten times, but it was to also prove that things aren’t flukes. Seated cable rows with medium-wide handle and a neutral grip from yesterday. . . A couple of key points on these for me: . *Upright and controlled torso. I know people will use a bit of a rocking motion with these, but that allows you to use momentum. That’s fine if you’re aware of it and that’s your intent, but I like to really focus on using my lats primarily. . . *I allow some protraction of my scapula at the start of the pull to increase the range of motion, but still keeping an upright posture to keep a good position. . . *I imitate the movement with a retraction of my scapula in order to really engage my back and posterior shoulder muscles from the start. Oh, you thought that you were coming here for some pics of the 🍑?? Sorry, we arent talking about *that* back. Lets talk back strength! More specifically, growing those shoulders, lats and traps. For years I neglected training my back becuase I thought that it was not something I had to worry about. Out of sight, out of mind! I was totally content pounding away on the treadmill becuase getting bigger was the enemy. And lets be real...by 'pounding away' I was watching episodes of Cupcake Wars while chugging along at a speedy 5 mph. Wonder why I wasnt a perfect 36"/24"/36" 🤷‍♀️ Heres the secret though...the real answer to getting that tiny waist is by growing that shoulder to hip ratio. In other words, the more of an emphasis a person puts on their upper body by making its width more exaggerated ↔️ the smaller the lower body appears. Think about it! If person's physique looks like this 🔽 instead of this 🔼 the more shapely they will be! Achieving strong, athletic shoulders and a well-built back = a small, tapered waist and one sexy 🍑. Well, well, well...look who has finally shown up to the party. HardCORE abs for my advanced athletes!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Here are some of my favorite abdominal exercises (especially the 4th one). I challenge you to perform these on a foam pad, and extend your legs if you like a little added spice to your core. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ A couple of things I really enjoy: running, abs workout, and some good rock music to pump me up! This past year, I had the absolute pleasure of helping Amanda accomplish her goals of weight and fat loss for her wedding. A year later, Amanda had lost over 52 pounds and was down 21% body fat. It was truly an amazing transformation 🔥 My favorite part of my job and what I do, is not only witnessing a physical transformation of a client, but watching them grow as a person. I’m always blown away by how the two are related. The relationship between training / coaching a client and personality growth is unquestionably a powerful one 🔥 And as the year progressed and she started to see results, Amanda was transforming herself on the inside and out. Her focus and continued dedication to her goals unleashed an inner flame that has been an inspiration to us all. Not only was she deadlifting over 200 pounds and doing her first pull-ups of her life, she was showing up to her sessions with a smile on her face, cracking jokes, and letting her personality shine through 🔥 The girl who was shy and “out of her element” during her first sessions, was now one of the strongest clients (out of both men and women). Her text messages often cracked me up as she let more of her personality come through. I often smiled and giggled knowing she was enjoying life through a different lens 🔥 In December, during our holiday party for our members at Tribe, Amanda asked me if I would attend her wedding. She said it would mean a lot to her if I would be there. I couldn’t have been more proud and honored to accept the invite. I was touched that a client viewed me as being so close and special to her that she’d like for me to be there on her big day 💕 Seeing her smile and shine this past weekend at her wedding was a special moment in my life that I won’t ever forget. A little over a year ago, Amanda stepped into Tribe SF to take her first class. She had just purchased a membership with ClassPass and wanted to try studios out. Something about Tribe spoke to her, and after her first class with Billy, she knew Tribe was the place she needed to be 💛 With her fitness journey beginning and her wedding a year away, Amanda was determined to lose weight, gain strength, build confidence, and feel amazing for her BIG DAY 💛 She spent the next several months making huge adjustments to her life, including carving out time (she’s a busy lawyer!) to workout and maintain a healthy eating routine. She began taking classes and personal training at Tribe SF - utilizing our semi-private training sessions and fitness classes to accomplish her goals 💛 As the year progressed, Amanda completely transformed herself. Her focus and continued dedication to her goals unleashed an inner flame that has been an inspiration to us all. Her inner strength matched her outer strength, dead-lifting over 200 LBS 💛 The girl who was shy and “out of her element” in her first class, was now one of the strongest clients we had (out of both men and women)! Her confidence soared, her smiled began to shine, and she blossomed into her radiant self 💛 On her wedding day this past weekend, Amanda stood proudly in her white dress, 52 POUNDS lighter and with 21% less body fat than when she started her journey. She was truly glowing and everyone felt it 💛 Even after these amazing accomplishments, her favorite accomplishment was something entirely unselfish and loving. “My biggest accomplishment? Convincing Andy (her fiancé who started training at Tribe 4 months ago) to start working out too! Once he saw my results, he wanted some of his own… I don’t think you understand how rare and special that is to me. If you knew Andy before, you’d know how impossible this was. I don’t recognize the Andy who is begging for more workout sessions, and I love it!” 💛 Amanda, you are a special person and this weekend’s wedding proved how much love you have for yourself and others.
