ENERGY BALANCE 🍔 . So here’s a very simplified version of how energy balance works. In order to lose or gain weight, you must consume either less or more energy than your body requires. So if you need 2,500 kcals to maintain your weight and you consume 2,000, you are in a 500 kcal deficit. Where that food comes from technically doesn’t matter for bodyweight (although there’s better ways to do things), as poorly demonstrated above 😂 . However, if you want to optimise your health, improve muscle retention, perform better and feel fuller, you should be taking into consideration the macros and quality of food you are consuming. Having all your food come in the form of chocolate bars isn’t going to be optimal for anyone, especially an athlete! 🥊

Old video from being on prep and felt stronger than ever. Was at 0 carbs and 1000calories of cardio a for about 2 weeks at this point and as tough as it was I didnt feel as bad as everyone said it would and craziest part felt really strong st the gym. STRETCHING!! Stretching is so important when weight training. Muscles can become shortened which can make it difficult to preform certain exercises at their full range of motion and it can also lead to muscle imbalances if muscles haven’t been stretched properly. Don’t get me wrong I had always tried to avoid stretching because i felt like it was such an effort and it was boring but now I realize how important it actually is. Every muscle in your body is connected some how and one imbalance can throw everything completely off. After playing Gaelic football last summer I started getting quite a bit of knee pain and I thought it might have had something to do with having weak ankles from spraining them over and over again 🙄 that might have been where it started but around that time I had been beginning to squat heavier and I hadn’t been stretching properly so I also started developing pain in my hips. I had begun to develop tight hip flexors, glutes and quads. After nearly every leg session I have started to stretch more and I’ve noticed a huge difference. I no longer have any hip or knee pain. I am doing a lot of hypertrophy training i.e. training for maximal muscle growth so the best stretching for me is static stretching which is taking the muscle to the point of tension when you can feel the stretch most and holding it for 30 seconds+. I also do a bit of foam rolling to release some of the knots. My favorite stretch for tight glute muscles and hip flexors is the pigeon pose (shown) and I believe it has helped relieve any pain I had been having. Killed it doing seated military presses the other day! 💪Getting better at this movement and am actually really starting to like it. 😁 Did a set of 20 45, set of 15 65, set of 12 95, and a set of 20 135 PR for front presses. Then did a set of 12 65, set of 12 95, and a set of 17 115 PR for behind the neck presses. 🤘 Then did 2 sets of 20 50 and 2 sets of 30 60 for upright rows. Lastly did 5 sets of dumbbell laterals with the 15s, 20s, and 25s to failure. 😳 Awesome session! This was after bench press and dumbbell presses so shoulders were already a little taxed. 😅

Managed a single with 405 which was fairly easy, then failed 415 (mental mistake), then redeemed myself with another single with 405 right after. Honestly my last set with 405 I really dug deep for! Smh for not doing that with 415 because I felt I legit had it.... would've been a PR for bodyweight too! 😢 lol 😅
