Healthy fats and your gut/brain connection 🌱 Ever been totally stressed out at work and completely forgotten to eat breakfast or lunch? Or maybe you just opted for that chocolate bar instead because you had no appetite at all - normal. When in a stressed state your central nervous system overrides digestive power so as to prioritize more important functions. Healthy fats and essential fatty acids are wonderful anti-inflammatory aids. Our brains are roughly 60% fat, which means that correct dietary fat intake can assist the brain to work correctly. To fight stress. To provide mental clarity and resilience. Fats also have a better effect on satiety which can assist in craving control. Let's talk hair loss! Since August is hair loss Awareness month, it's a great time to talk about causes and some solutions! DHT is the most common cause for hairloss, so let's talk about that for a min. . CAUSES: . 1. Genetics are the most common cause for hair loss, and aside from the myth that it comes from the mother's side, it can in fact come from either side. While there is no cure for male pattern baldness (caused by DHT), there are ways to slow or halt hair loss! . 2. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a byproduct from a testosterone produced enzyme, and is the primary hormone responsible for hair loss or baldness in men and women. This hormone is also responsible for many other things that make men, well, men. Like forming the male genitalia during pregnancy and putting the hair on your chest, back and other areas. Topical DHT blockers can help! . 3. STRESS is a significant factor for hair loss in both men and women, as it drives androgens, thereby upping secretion of the DHT hormone. Stress can wreak havoc on your body and scalp about 3 months after one stressful episode. You could experience excessive shedding and bald spots. The good part is, usually it's only temporary. . 4. Medical conditions, such as autoimmune disorders like alopecia, hyperthyroidism, or medical treatments such as chemo, can all have a significant impact on your scalp hair. Often, these conditions can be treated, and DHT blockers may help as well. . SOLUTIONS: . You can block DHT at the follicle by using DHT blocking shampoo or spray (I know where you can get ahold of both 😉). Fold in mashed bananas. Sprinkle over all dry ingredients evenly and fold until mixed. ⁠A Sunday well spent brings a week of content 🌀 Devouring this fluffy stack of protein pancakes while thinking about what to eat for lunch, anyone else do this?! 😂⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ RECIPE...⁣⁠⠀ ⁣⁠⠀ 1/2 cup oats + 1 scoop protein powder @missfitsnutrition + 1/2 tsp baking powder + 1 tsp cinnamon + pinch of salt + 1/3 cup almond milk @plenishdrinks + 1 egg (whisked) + 2 tbsp yoghurt @nushfoods + oil for cooking⁠⠀ ⁣⁠⠀ 1. Mix dry ingredients in one bowl and wet ingredients in a separate bowl (stir well). ⁣⁠⠀ 2. Combine the wet and dry ingredients together and mix until a smooth batter is formed.⁣⁠⠀ 2. Heat oil in a frying pan and add 2 tbsp of batter. After 2 mins, flip and cook on the other side for 1-2 mins. Repeat with the rest of the batter.⁣⁠⠀ 3. On July 17th my Ima turned 95 years old. My mom is bedridden and needs 24 hours a day care. She understands when I talk to her, but can hardly utter a response. She had a stroke a few months ago. Is this my destiny as well?
superfoods became everything after my mom's stroke, and the Shingels that came for a visit. I suddenly had low energy, and I did not feel I was living to the fullest.
A nutritionist suggested I change to a gluten and dairy free diet. My life changed from then on. Some people say I think twice about what I put in my mouth, I think three to four times. :)
I consume the best ingredients. I even adopted organic chicken liver with onions once a week as it is a healthy nutrient dense food for rich or poor.
I make healthy shakes daily. I mix all the fruit and veggies I can find in my refrigerator. I add red or green grapes to make my shakes sweet. The new blender allows me to nourish my body quickly and efficiently. I stuff it all in my blender and push a button.
There is only one big problem. I gained 5 pounds, I have not been able to take them off. This is a huge dilemma. There are consequences to all the good calories I consume.
I am grateful for the extra energy I have in me. My skin, nails, and hair are taking an independent life of their own. It is amazing to see the effects of good nutrition, when you least expect it.
I am no longer having an affair with food. This means no guilt feelings after consuming something that tastes good, but bad for me in the long run.I enjoy being loyal to nutrition and loved back by my body.
Food is an obsession and my new health insurance policy. I will keep the 5 extra pounds and do more pushups to try and lose the weight.
