St. Audoen's Church (1190) Dublin This is a monument on which lie the recumbent figures of a knight and lady. On this "tomb" the following Latin inscription appears in Gothic lettering: "Orate pro anima Rolandi FitzEustace de Portlester, qui hunc locum sive capellum dedit, in honorem Beatae Mariae Virgin's, etiam pro animo Margaretae uxoris suae, et pro animabus omnium fidelium defunctorum. A.D. 1455" (Pray for the soul of Roland FitzEustace of Portlester who dedicated this place or chapel in honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary, also for the soul of Margaret, his wife, and for the souls of the faithful departed.) It fits well into the genre of funerary figure sculpture of the fifteenth century period. The monument was not, however, erected over the place of burial of Roland and Margaret.
