I have to know where I’m at to plan where I want to be. I had gotten my 1.5 mile down to 14 minutes before, and that was almost a year ago. After I was declined to work for Mesa PD, I gave up. motivationmonday . . This motivation is FOR ME. Before you guys yell at me for being too harsh, it is what I need. I need the harsh truth. I am the queen of minimizing, of denial, and I need to be real with myself... and hence with you. . . These pics are from 2015, 2017, and 2019. I went so far and fell so fast. It is devastating to me. Now before you remind me to bepositive I have one positive... I am stronger and in better shape than 2015, and I’m starting from a better place mentally. Because I KNOW I can do this. The trick is... can I maintain????? So far in my life, the answer is no. . . The problem is much more my diet than exercise. I continue to take in too many excess calories. I still binge eat. I ate 6 fist sized cookies one day this weekend. 6. In secret, of course!!! I cannot exercise away my diet, there aren’t enough hours in the day. I need to fix my diet, and make it stick because I am focused on the long game. . . Now I’m a grown ass woman. I’m a freaking doctor. I know that obesity kills. I see it every day at work. When it doesn’t kill, it maims. I will not die from an obesity related disease. And I will not become a morbidly obese person who is confined to a wheelchair or scooter!! I want to be the 90 year old woman I saw lapping me on the trail, running at 12,500 feet in the Colorado Rockies!!! . . I am a bad bitch and a strong woman in many ways. So why not here? Can I kick this addiction to overeating? I love to eat healthy foods, so can I eliminate the junk and just eat the good stuff? I have before, but the bad times I hate to think about, last year, drove me back to my old ways. I relapsed. Time to start again. . . Can I become strong, can I conquer obesity? And mean it. For real, and permanently. . . LEG DAY 🔥⁣ ⁣ It’s been a hot minute since I’ve filmed a leg day so this morning I thought what the heck. I’ve changed my squat day up a little, time to get the heart rate up and sweat baby. ⁣ ⁣ ✖️ Back Squats - Pyramid style aka work your weight up close to your 1RM then back down. 6 sets. ⁣ ✖️ Elevated Split Squat - This is how you should properly get into the position, making sure your knees are in alignment. Spent the last few days visiting with my wife and her family. Thanks to @jay.edmonds for driving! Our family almost all went too. It was a really good visit! I got to cook for them for a few days, and left a few meals to enjoy. My father in law taught my wife to bbq, when we met my wife taught me to q. That was almost 40 years ago. So he kinda is responsible for all my cooking... the last picture is my elbow last night. What looks like a pimple is in fact a piece of asphalt coming out. I crashed a bicycle 28 years ago and landed on the elbow which blew out my shoulder, then I landed on my back and had road rash the left side of my back. They operated on the elbow to pick out the pieces of asphalt but pieces came out for a few years after... now 28 years later another piece comes out. I’m super proud of my hard work. It hasn’t been easy, but worth it. I’m sore everyday and super tired. However, I noticed today I no longer have a muffin top hanging over my pants. It’s all worth it. A pattern of mine, when I start something new, is to want to be amazing at it in a short time. One of the most impactful lessons about having patience and being a diligent student of the things I desire came from a good college friend who was working on his masters at the time and was eventually heading into his doctoral program. I remember I was disappointed one day about the progress I was making in school. Instead of just being a passive listener, he encouraged me to take a deeper look at how much effort I was putting into getting good grades and seeing progress. He told me to add up how many hours I was dedicating to my schoolwork. He then used my father as an example, because my dad ran a business at that time. He had me add up approximately how many hours per day my dad put into running his business and being good at what he did. It was truly an eye-opener and made me realize how much work and dedication is required to become good at something. So often we can look at others and envy what they have, what they do and who they are without thinking about the hard work and time they have put into their goals. This observation, more than 25 years ago, changed everything for me and has become a story that I tell myself in times when the fruit of my labor isn’t manifesting as I had hoped for. Here is a little kettle bell push-up set for you. If you are a beginner, modify! Start with one set of one, on your knees, shallow movement. If you are push up fluent try at least 3 sets of three. Getting back into the swing of things isn’t easy. Whether it’s constant traveling or being sick, the first week back into exercising is always the roughest. This past week I finished my first official week of the wendler531 program. Boy! Did I feel it. Don’t worry about getting back into the swing of things. Yeah, you might have to scale back some, but use that time to solidify the basics and get stronger.
