LATERAL/SIDE DELTS @leroynewyen SAVE this for your next shoulderday ! 💾 💾 Exercise: Cable Lateral Raise 1️⃣ Set the pulley of the cable machine as low as you see fit. 2️⃣ Grab the single handle through between your legs to really target the lateral (middle) deltoids. 3️⃣ Now raise your arm with a pronate: grip (palms face down), until it is elevated at shoulder level. 4️⃣ REMEMBER to drive with the elbows, pinky up, while your entire arm is slightly bent and aligned. 📝: Use your other hand grab the machine for better support and balance. You can also hold on to your waist or belly like me shown in video. 5️⃣ Feel the contraction at the top for a second and begin to slowly lower the handle back down to the original starting position while inhaling. 6️⃣ Switch arms and repeat the exercise. Do 3-4 sets of 12-15 reps of this movement! Give it a try and let me know what you think! Parallel bar dips: Stand between a set of parallel bars. Place one hand on each bar and take a small jump to get you to the starting position with your arms locked out. Which Is The Best Shoulder Press for the Deltoids? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I always hear that the standing barbell overhead press (OHP) is the best way to grow your deltoids. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I won’t argue with that. It is a great for activating the deltoids, triceps, and even hitting other muscles like the serratus anterior and core. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But a study compared various should press variations, standing barbell, standing dumbbell, seated barbell, and seated dumbbell. The standing dumbbell OHP elicited the greatest deltoid activity [1]. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ One caveat is that it is really tough to do heavier weights and progressively overload with this variation. Just try lifting heavy dumbbells overhead while standing—it’s pretty difficult. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ That’s why I use standing barbell OHP as my staple and use standing dumbbell OHP as my higher-rep variant. First time performing a standing OHP or any weight bearing exercise that requires base leg stabilisation in the last 8 weeks 💪 Been dealing with an injured quad and tight mid back which developed from neglecting to warm up correctly 😕 Worked up to a set of 45kg for 5 reps - much weaker than where I was at 2 months ago but glad to be able to incorporate compounds lifts into my program again 🏋️‍♂️
