‘Bright hopes and pure delights, upon my course may beam.. amidst the sternest heights the sweetest flowers gleam’

Today's theme is literary places. Think we can manage that...! Parsonage has housed the world's largest collection of manuscripts and personal possessions for over 90 years. We are very proud of our most recent acquisition.

Anne died in Scarborough on May 28, 1849 She wanted to be welcome & welcoming, releasing & promising, like driving along the shore that afternoon & how she had tried to steer her life, her hands on the reins but guiding her progress.

On the anniversary of Anne 's death, I cast my ballot in the morning and spent the afternoon working on her bicentenary issue of Victorians journal. Anne was an artist and an advocate for women, and this felt like a quietly fitting way to celebrate her legacy.

What's the correct term for a fan of the sisters? Bronteite? Brontosauruses?

I'm buried now; I've done with life; I've done with hate, revenge & strife; I've done with joy, & hope & love And all the bustling world above Long have I dwelt forgotten here... This place of solitude & gloom Must be my dungeon & my tomb. —Anne Brontë, died 1849

Flowers for Anne Brontë who died in 1849. Photos from my last trip to in February.
