StuffYouNeedMoreOf- SIMPLICITY . . . Great post from @liftrunbang on a SIMPLE and SUSTAINABLE nutrition plan. When people ask me, “what’s the best diet plan?”, I always say, “the one you can sustain over a long period of time”. Yes intermittent fasting is good. Yes keto is good. Yes (insert some diet that you’ve heard of from chad at the gym or from Nancy on insta) is good. BUT if you cannot sustain that diet over the course of at LEAST 4+ months, or ideally forever, buddy it’s not the diet for YOU. . . Perfect example: me! I’m a full time college student, who works 2 1/2 jobs, kinda has a social life, and plenty of other things to worry about. I don’t have time to follow any “diet”. How do I approach my nutrition? I make sure I hit all the big points daily: -At least 1g of protein per pound I weigh -a solid serving of healthy fats -a serving of carbs from fruit/veggies at every meal. - spread these out over 3+ meals This is 80% of the big picture. Other things that make up the last 20% is the times you eat, the quality of the foods you eat, supplements, blah blah blah. The lesson here: if you can’t do the big stuff, don’t worry about the lil stuff. Stop over complicating shit . . . Hear me out. You’ve seen plenty of posts telling you “eat this, not that” or “avoid these killer foods” or “the best foods to burn fat”. It’s all bullshit. There are no blanket foods that are good or bad. Food does not hold that type of classification. Some will definitely help you more than others, but it really comes down to context. Having a piece of cake at work does not make you bad or mean your diet is automatically lost. It doesn’t mean it’s a “good” thing either. It’s all based on the context of your situation. For someone who needs to control their sugar and processed food intake for their health, it’s better to avoid such foods. For the person who feels freedom in their food choices when they can have cake or wine without overeating or gaining unwanted weight, it’s perfectly acceptable to have. Don’t fall victim to overarching labels of food and diets. How you eat does not define you, it’s just food. Eat mostly whole foods (grown in the ground or had a face), have some flexibility and fun, and don’t label yourself in a negative light because of other people’s opinions of how you eat. Make sense?

Reading about specificity, progressive overload, fatigue management, stimulus recovery adaptation curves, phase potentiation, individual differences, maximum recoverable volume and minimum effective volume in training. We read so much about how diet is like 80% of our results. But that does not mean we can forget about the fact that our training itself also has to be purposeful, directed, and measured, based on the aforementioned principles. Not only that, the more you read, the more you understand the important of keeping the main thing the main thing and not overthinking about little rocks. For instance, specificity, progressive overload, and fatigue management will take us far in our training. Much like overall calorie balance and macro balance will take us far in our nutrition. Only once we have the basics down should we worry about adding further refinements in the form of additional details. Weightlifting work this morning. Warmup, power snatches, power clean and jerks, press and overhead squat work. Nothing too heavy; moderate yet plenty of volume work.
