Started this extremely dumb painting tonight. Raccoon tourist checking out @badlandsnps . . . The A.C. Moore near me is closing so these giant canvases are just $13 so I bought a bunch and now I can make giant paintings. Not sure where I will store them but that’s a problem for later. . . . #raccoon   #raccoonillustration   #illustration   #etsyartist   #art   #painting   #badlandsnationalpark   #badlands

I lost my way but I am slowly climbing back up. Persistence and determination are key! • 🌏I’m an explorer. 🚣‍♀️I’m a seeker. 🗺I find joy wandering new places. 👫I crave meeting new people and hearing their stories. • To me...sitting still gives me itchy feet, makes me feel stale and takes me down the rabbit hole of unhappiness. • To grow and learn is what we are suppose to do. To live our life on our own terms. Don’t let anything or anyone bring you down! • I am me and if you don’t like that... well that’s not my issue to deal with🧘‍♀️💗🌻 • • • #me   #findingmyway   #seek   #explore   #adventure   #adventurer   #wanderlust   #joy   #newplaces   #meetingpeople   #crave   #learn   #grow   #beme   #beautiful   #beauty   #beautifuldestinations   #wellness   #travel   #happiness   #lucky   #grateful   #badlandsnationalpark   #yogi   #yoga   #iamlost   #found   #persistence   #determination   #throughtheeyeofgrace

I’ve felt a little lost for words these past couple days, finding myself spending more time scrolling on this app than I’d like to admit. I went for a walk this afternoon it was something I committed to doing yesterday because I’ve been cooped up in my house all winter and I keep finding myself admiring the people who live in a warmer place than I do. So, I made a point not to be on my phone while I walked and just reflect on life. But as I reflected I found myself zoning out into the nothingness of nature. I don’t remember a single thing I thought about on my walk today, minus yelling at my dog a few times but the walk allowed me to just Be. I just was, I had no expectations, no comparison thoughts, no worry..... it was nice, it was odd...unnatural. My mind constantly runs circles wherever I am, whether that’s laying in bed or sitting at home alone. I think that’s a trait our society has created, we like to be busy, we like to always have stuff going on. But ya know, it’s nice to be. To just be happy. To just be content. To just let worry go and let sadness and uncertainty go. On my walk today, I just existed, I slowed down and allowed myself to see the world, the place that I live in and I liked it.

The Lakota gave this land its name, “Mako Sica,” meaning “land bad.” Located in southwestern South Dakota, Badlands National Park consists of 244,000 acres of sharply eroded buttes, pinnacles and spires blended with the largest protected mixed grass prairie in the United States. It is desolation at its truest, where you can look for miles and see no sign of civilization. This land has been so ruthlessly ravaged by wind and water that it has become picturesque. The Badlands are a wonderland of bizarre, colorful spires and pinnacles, massive buttes and deep gorges. #southdakota   #badlandsnationalpark   #badlands   #buttes   #pinnacles   #mixedgrassprairie   #picturesque   #travel   #roadtrip   #nature   #nationalpark   #hiking   #travelphotography   #landscape   #usa   #wanderlust   #naturephotography   #adventure   #travelgram   #yourshotphotographer   #explore   #landscapephotography   #beautifuldestinationsaroundworld   #instaclicks   #iphonography   #natgeo   #natgeotravel   #traveldiaries   #january2020

Time for the honest truth: when I drove by this bighorn sheep on the side of the road I took some pictures of it. Even though I tried to avoid getting too close and driving as far away on the other road side as possible, it was still probably way too close for the comfort of the animal. I passed slowly and at a safe distance but are these measures even enough? He seemed to regard me, but did not move away. This is because he has probably become unnaturally accustomed to vehicles driving along this path, vehicles getting too close, possibly even people feeding the animal from their vehicles, etc. This is how some animals end up dying, their natural responses to run away from people and vehicles has been altered. Even though these park lands are protected for the sake of the animals (and of course our enjoyment), we are still encroaching on their habitat and they are becoming habituated to contact with people in a dangerous way. That is why we must maintain our safe distance. It is not just for our sake, but especially for the animals sake. . . Now back to the point of full disclosure: from my vehicle, I took some close up pictures of this animal as I passed by, but I consciously chose not to post those pictures here on my feed specifically because it may send a message to people who view the images that approaching up close to animals to get the shot is an ok behavior. IT IS NOT OK. And it is pages like @insta_wrecked and @publiclandshateyou (and more) that are educating more and more people, and in turn making me more aware of the content that I share (even though I don't have influencer status). But it's not about the amount of people that you can effect, it's about being responsible with the content you share regardless of the size of your audience. Because once it's out there, it CAN influence. And we want to show and represent responsible outdoor ethics for everyone to hopefully follow. So expect that kind of message from my feed moving forward. . . . . . . . . . . #excelsior   #wanderlust   #iguessitsalright   #upwardsandonwards   #optoutside   #adventureculture   #nationalparkservice   #parkranger   #tourguideslife   #southdakota   #badlandsnationalpark

I have a goal to visit all 50 states before I turn 30. I’ve got 4 and a half years left with 20 to go I try to go to a new state every chance I get, but of course there’s going to be gems along the way that I mark to return to one day. When I started this journey I never would have thought that South Dakota would be one of those states. But man, the Badlands have definitely changed that

Welcome to Dog Town! 💨 Prairie dogs live in the central and western parts of the United States, forming ‘towns’ composed of many distinct families (or ‘cotories’). ☀️ Named for the warning barking sound they make, these animals are actually a type of ground squirrel. Their behavior is quite unique, and breeding season sees normally close family members turn on one another as they fight for the best nursing burrow space in which to raise their pups. 📽 Follow the link in our bio to watch the giant kindergarten! #prairiedogs   #prairiedog   #pups   #pup   #badlandsnationalpark   #badlands   #natuonalpark   #wildlife   #animals   #wildanimals   #cuteanimals   #breedingseason   #cute   #funnyanimals   #prairiedogsofinstagram   #newvideo   #terramatters

Throwback from 2011, a trip to the #badlands   #badlandsnationalpark   #morning   #summer   #green   #prairie   #southdakota

📸 Badlands, July 2019. Our first night on the road. Here are some summertime memories that I've been hiding. 😜 Some because the idea of trying to post all the crazy experiences from our trip was insanely overwhelming, but also because our trip was something incredible we experienced together and just didn't feel like it needed to be plastered all over IG. This summer Lex and I, along with our 4 y/o, got to spend an amazing 21 day adventure travelling in our Subie across the country. Living out of and sleeping in our car in backcountry campsites (and sometimes parking lots) along the way. Some of our friends & family kept saying it was an "adventure of a lifetime"... as if this was an opportunity that probably wouldn't happen again. I, however, whole-heartedly disagree 😏 It was truly an adventure for us. Driving our almost 20 year old "salvage vehicle" thousands of miles across the country, in the middle of summer with no working a/c, sometimes up into 10,000 + feet of elevation, with only our little family and no real plan. IT. WAS. PERFECT. Camping on a cliffside through a huge storm with 80mph wind gusts. Hiding under mosquito netting to eat dinner and watch an incredible sunset over the lake. Swimming in clear blue water on a hot day. Watching our fur child run excitedly through the snow fields at 10k feet because he didn't know you could find snow in July lol. Breathe in the salty air of the coast or the moist air of the Olympic rainforest. These memories will be just some of the many more to come ♡ ♡ Your life is your adventure! And your adventure is what you make it. Don't ever waste a second of it waiting for something in life to make you happy. Find your happy and chase after it. I am blessed with an incredible & supportive and an able body. Try to keep up! 😉 #adventure   #carcamping   #summeradventures2019   #subieadventures   #subaruforester   #roadtrip   #wildideas   #chasingadventure   #adventurepups   #lifetothefullest   #badlandsnationalpark   #crosscountryroadtrip   #bestwifeintheworld   #gsdofinstagram   #gsd   #sablegermanshepherd   #germanshepherd   czechgermanshepherd @max_skayer @ryder_thegsd

Happy Lunar New Year! Year of the Rat, which is Reggie’s Chinese zodiac sign. We did some digging and it turns out Reggie should be a stock analyst or an accountant. Does anyone know of any good schools we can get him into so that he can start handling your taxes? Monica is an Ox, she missed her mark working in tech because she is best suited for the “building materials” field. The only thing that truly seemed to make sense regarding our signs is that, we are romantically compatible. What industry should you actually be in based on your Chinese zodiac animal? How have you failed horribly in obtaining your true destiny? Share your horrible failures with us!

From London Ontario, we headed southwest to Mt. Rushmore before heading north to Yukon and Alaska. Travelling through Badlands National Park was one of the highlights of our trip. Nancy wasn't sure she wanted to go there (how could a place called "The Badlands" be a nice place to visit?) but she absolutely loved it. Want to read about our road trip to Yukon and Alaska?
