Winter Wellness Tip 14 is WRITE A LETTER! 📝⁣ .⁣ Writing letters to your loved ones- or even yourself- can increase your overall well-being, help you gain clarity about your emotional state, express love to others AND put into practice an underutilized skill! ⁣ .⁣ When was the last time you wrote someone a letter? Think about how great it feels to receive one and consider gifting that feeling to someone else. Or, if you are processing something that is hard for you, write a letter to yourself in the past, present or future and see if it helps you heal or identify some thoughts or feeling that you haven’t yet put yourself finger on. It can be very cathartic thing!⁣ .⁣ Have a wonderful rest of your Sunday’s and we’ll see you tomorrow for Tip 15- we’re halfway there! Team F&S🕊

How many times in life have we tried to fight what is, only to find ourselves anxious, upset and feeling helpless by a situation that we can’t even control? What’s the point? The true higher path is by optimizing, in other words, by making the most of, reality. A “bad day” won’t be as bad if you work to find some pleasurable moments in it. A curve ball, a break up, crappy weather, a bad investment, whatever! Stop fighting what’s happening or already happened ... that part is done, it happened. Do you know what didn’t happen yet though? How you will optimize the situation you find yourself in. And that is so empowering! Even in a health challenge there is always the opportunity to stop feeling sorry for ourselves and to instead find gratitude for what we do have. And btw, watch how you will begin to ownyouranxiety even more through this outlook. May we optimize reality and stop fighting it 💫 You with me?!

A key part of the Own Your Anxiety lifestyle is to take time to recharge and recenter. And to do this when you feel the call, long before you crash, requires a heightened awareness of one’s self. May we all be in a constant evolution of self-understanding and self-discovery. Honestly the last few weeks I have been grinding non-stop. Speaking events, book going to print, press and media invites, teaching yoga and meditation, 1-1 work, travel, launching the Own Your Anxiety Ambassadors and being a present family member and friend has left me conscious that it’s a healthy time for me to get out of town and relax. I’m taking a few days off to hang with some of my closest friends (and this sweet unicorn) this weekend out East. Some days are not easy. Some days I don't feel like do anything. Some days doubt and anxiety consume me. But that's life, isn't it? The experience of coach summit has been UNREAL. ✨I have already learned so much and still have the rest of the weekend to soak up all the knowledge I can. A powerful Reiki session this morning. It is so wonderful to see how far this young man has come and with so many exciting times ahead! Today I used a visualisation that incorporated his love of football to take him to a deeper level of relaxation - which he certainly reached!! Reiki is a wonderful energy that can be used for so many conditions, as well as just wanting a hour or so of pure relaxation. Sometimes we just need to have faith in the unexplained. Did you know that good fats like Avocado and flowering plants like ginger (and turmeric) have been proven in multiple studies to reduce anxiety and stress? This face is what happens when I add extra ginger, hold the banana and add avocado to @kupfertkim ‘s/ @hello123forever ‘s “Green Smoothie” and it becomes a delish masterpiece in a glass. Next time you think that afternoon coffee is essential try a shot of ginger. And if you’re feeling anxious treat yourself to half an avocado, eat it straight out of the shell with a spoon. When anxiety says “HI!” it is saying hi for an honest reason. What it’s trying to tell us is the best advice we could ever seek to find. Your anxiety may be saying to you that it’s time to slow down or that it is time to speed up and do more. Maybe it’s telling you that someone you are hanging out with is not who you should be spending your precious time with. Your anxiety could be telling you that it’s time to make a profound change or that everything is just the way it’s supposed to be, to accept this incredible realization and not change anything - how beautiful is that? Maybe it’s saying that your job or what you’re studying isn’t what’s right for you. It could be saying that it’s time to break start your own business or begin a brand new career path. Often anxiety speaks up when it’s time to stop putting certain things into our sacred bodies; other times when we need to start putting certain things into our sacred bodies. When we start to become eager explorers of what our anxiety is trying to tell us we start to create the beginning of a beautifully communicative, cohesive and continuous journey of self involvement, self-love and self-empowerment all of which can profoundly enhance our beautiful lives. This is how you begin the path. This is how to own your anxiety.

I just wrote a personal essay for NBC, just before you read it, read this my friends: In 2008 I thought anxiety was my weakness. I thought I was alone. I thought the only way to turn off the, at the time, frightening and foreign feelings was by running from them any way that I could. Certainly not by being open about them. I shifted that conversation though. Years ago. And for years I have literally loved my anxiety. I cherish it, you guys. I have such an honest, open relationship with it. It keeps me on track. On my path. When I’m not being my real-self, my all-knowing self, my best self ... it speaks up loudly and I listen. Then I’m back where I’m supposed to be. Where the Universe wants me to be. Where deep, deep down I want ... hey, I NEED to be. And if you don’t already have this relationship with your anxiety I want you to know that YOU CAN. It CAN become YOUR SECRET EDGE. As you guys already know my purpose is to teach you how. That’s why I wrote ‘Own Your Anxiety’ a book on this. No one has called me weak for needing a long break from work and training. Everyone has been so supportive because my body was broken and needed help. Would I have got the same response if my brain was broken? 🤷🏻‍♀️ . . Mental illnesses are invisible. Sepsis is invisible. Both can be incredibly debilitating. So why treat mental illness differently to sepsis? Why wait to get help with one and rush to help with another. Both can be fatal. . . If you are struggling mentally or physically go and get help. Instead of asking why is this coming on? We learn to survive suffering with anxious and stressed out feelings (almost) all the time. I’m going to change that. NO. WE are going to change that! We must stop restricting the energy of anxiety so that it doesn’t build up and eventually erupt. Incorporating various natural ways of release will do huge, miracle-filled wonders when anxiety shows up in your life. Think: daily releasing and open conversations, regular exercise, consistent meditation, nose to belly breathing techniques, living in a yogic state of mind, getting out in nature, gratitude practices, connecting with your whole food... and more. Let yourself get lost. Intentionally take yourself some place that you will feel a bit lost. Somewhere beautiful. When we let ourselves physically explore, mentally and spiritually we also open up new space to explore within. Take yourself in to this journey. It might be a few minutes, hours, even days ... sometimes it can be months or years. Whatever it is, make sure that it happens. I think you may find radical self-love, deep appreciation for nature, and gratitude for your life. In this clear state it is much harder for debilitating anxiety to live. Go in.

Those that suffer with mental illness such as anxiety put on a smile and go about their day. And most of the time they are ok. But sometimes, they aren’t. Hopefully you have tools to manage it. A great support system. Breathing. Meditation. Your tribe. All of it. Healing vibes to all 💫

This is NOT a paid/sponsored post, I promise. I finally got myself a Wrangler. I've wavered around getting this car for the past 5 years. For a variety of reasons though, I never got it. Instead I bought more expensive cars that I thought I needed to drive to be perceived as a certain type of "successful" businessman. You ever do something like that before? You know, think you needed to be a certain way? I hope these words remind you to free yourself of that anxiety and lean in to the real YOU. As I've grown older an increasing embodiment of who this human named 'Julian' truly is continues to become my reality. I walk (well, and now drive again) in my authentic, purest, version of myself ... daily. I continue to journey deep into elements of my purest self in order to unlock my abundance in profound ways that I would have laughed off as too "woo woo" years ago. A desire to grow and find deeper meaning that is beyond numbers in bank accounts, work orders, and investments is what lead me here. Now check THIS out... Cuz literally I am laughing in amazement for our Universe upon realizing that today, June 21st, is International Day of Yoga and it is the same day that I finally bought myself the car that my most authentic self has been drawn to for so many years. Not planned. Just another gentle affirmation that there are no coincidences in life. By the way, embracing what Yoga (which means 'Union') is, has fully lit up my elevated life path regardless of temptations to deviate off-road. Also definitely not planned ... I found yoga because I had a crush on someone and she invited me to join her at a class in 2008. I invite you to ask yourself these questions: WHO are you holding yourself back from being? WHAT needs to happen for this holding back to end? HOW will you break the hold? Have a great weekend, IG Fam. These words are fully for you. Have a peaceful and happy Pride, all who are celebrating. True story- yesterday there was way to much caffeine in my body given the commitments I had to keep up with. My ‘in the zone’ energy quickly shifted to a form of debilitating anxiety and instead of letting it own me I took charged and owned it. It literally took less than 5 minutes guys! How empowering? The rest of the day was fantastic- great meeting, got some sweet creating (work) done, awesome yoga practice, a date, a concert and a sound sleep. All because I let what my body was telling me cue a need to shift my state. We hold the keys to what we need most. Don’t forget. If you know someone who would benefit from this grounding strategy please make sure they see this. That is how we make positive change. 💙

FOOD Allergy Sufferers this is for you: Last week something really big happened in my life. I found the most delicious pizza that I could actually eat. Oh, and if you didn’t know the Toronto Raptors became the world champs!!! LOL but seriously, I’m pretty intolerant of lactose. It’s been a challenge for more than half my life. When I was younger it was hell on earth because I didn’t know what was happening and the lactose pills only worked some of the time. So after years of being totally hit hard by scary levels of indigestion, I just gave up all products that had lactose. — Own Your Anxiety tip: listen to your body! Don’t fight or resist what it’s telling you, if it rejects what you’re putting in it you gotta listen, there’s a reason. So much is caused by food choices and gut health. Please be intentional and mindful. — But the other day while watching the game I discovered something that will forever change my pizza experience... vegan pizza made from coconut-based cheese. We can’t choose what’s going to happen in our lives. We can’t choose how we’re going to naturally feel at any given moment. All that we can control, however, is how we will show up for all of it. Having my tools that I practice and practice and practice empowers me to show up really damn well about 99% of the time. I use the practice of giving gratitude, reading positive books, writing, daily yoga practice, keeping my use of social media very mindful and to no more than about 30 minutes a day, exercise, responding to messages and email in increments not like a robot lol, positive music, affirmations, a consistent sleep regiment, minimizing processed food, and a few other things to keep me on the right track. Let’s talk anxiety. It is awful. It can be debilitating. It can ruin relationships. It can prevent you from being who you were meant to be in the world and from being your best self. But it can also be balanced. It can also be managed with the right tools. Anxiety has no rhyme or reason. It can show up completely unexpected and can be completely unreasonable and unexplainable. I found myself in my very first yoga class about 7 years ago because of anxiety, which ended up being one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Yoga has forever changed my life. Much of my anxiety is related to shit that has happened to me in the past. Shit that I had no control of and shit I can’t change. Today I choose to “Free yourself from your past. This is a wild, outlandish, and alternative idea that isn’t for everyone. Maybe it is for you though. Maybe this idea can make a massive change in your personal journey through anxiety. So much self-shaming, negative self-talk and ultimately shame-induced anxiety originated by being someone we don’t want to be and continues by doing things that we know we don’t want to be doing; things that our truest self is better than.
