Randal Grichuk 2019 Teams: Toronto Blue Jays (MLB) 2019 MLB Stats: PA: 628 BA: .232 OBP: .280 SLG: .457 H: 136 R: 75 RBI: 80 HR: 31 2B: 29 3B: 5 BB: 35 SO: 163 SB: 2 Despite the fact that he hit 31 homers and had 80 RBIs this season, Randal Grichuk called his second year with the Blue Jays a disappointment. While the power was certainly there, the batting average was not, as the 28 year old only hit .232, and had an ugly on base percentage of .280. Grichuk also struck out 163 times, which led the Blue Jays. On the day of the Kevin Pillar trade, the Blue Jays made quite a puzzling decision with Grichuk, and signed him to a five year/$52 million contract. Given that his first season with the Blue Jays wasn’t that great, this decision was very surprising. This raised expectations for Grichuk, and, many times, he failed to deliver. A notorious second half player, Grichuk did pick it up after that all star break, but the production wasn’t where it should be for a player making $10.2 million per year. Randal was quite good in the outfield this season, moving between right and centre, and was solid in either spot. Grichuk also developed into a leader in the Blue Jays clubhouse, as at 28 years old, he was one of the veterans on the team. 2019 was a year of highs and lows for Randal Grichuk, and he will look to become more consistent in 2020. Outlook for next season: Grichuk will likely begin the season starting in right field, as he and Lourdes Gurriel Jr look like the only locks in Toronto’s outfield. Grichuk will be 29 next season, and the team will hope that he can improve on his output in 2019. Number 9 on my Top 10 Blue Jays MVP list is Reese McGuire. McGuire would be a lot higher if he played more, however I had to take games played into consideration. He hit .299/.346/.526 with 5 homers and 7 doubles in 30 games. Not bad for a “defensive catcher”. It seems good-hitting catchers are such a rarity, and the Blue Jays very likely have a .280 guy on their hands here. He’s also a very good defensive catcher, with an incredible arm. If he played more games he would be much higher, but he played less than 20% of the season so I can’t give it to him just yet. - #bluejays   #jays   #toronto   #gojays   #gobluejays   #gojaysgo   #canadasteam   #letsgobluejays   #letsgojays   #torontobluejays   #6ix   #rogerscentre   #mlb   #baseball   #mlbbaseball   #grichuk   #randalgrichuk   #dereklaw   #brockstewart   #boknows   #bobichette   #vladimirguerrerojr   #cavanbiggio   #lourdesgurrieljr   #piñapower   #dannyjansen   #kengiles   #samgaviglio   #canada

NEW ARTICLE! Trying to teach Blue Jays fans what a rebuild is and how Ross Atkins (Jays GM) and Shapiro (Jays President) are doing a great job! A pretty controversial topic that I’m pretty sure I’m in the minority in, but this has to be written. I’ve been wanting to write this article for many since I created my website and finally decided to do so with the regular season now over. In my opinion, this is the best article I’ve ever written and I’m super proud in how it came out. Please go check it out and then let me know how you think Atkins & Shapiro are doing!

Gonna be posting my picks for the top 10 most valuable Blue Jays this season. Starting off at 10 is Rowdy Tellez. Tellez hit .227/.293/.449 with 21 dingers this year in 111 games. The only reason Tellez is this low is because that BA is not very good (under .230) and there were others (Teoscar Hernandez) who had similar star lines, but will be placed higher due to the fact he played more than Tellez (I took games played into consideration). He did, however, show great power at the plate, was improving as the season went on, and he hit over 20 homers. His defence at first was good, I’d say he’s got a very reliable glove. I can see him becoming a 40 home run guy for sure in the future for us as he is a very valuable young piece. - #bluejays   #jays   #toronto   #gojays   #gobluejays   #gojaysgo   #canadasteam   #letsgobluejays   #letsgojays   #torontobluejays   #6ix   #rogerscentre   #mlb   #baseball   #mlbbaseball   #grichuk   #randalgrichuk   #dereklaw   #brockstewart   #boknows   #bobichette   #vladimirguerrerojr   #cavanbiggio   #lourdesgurrieljr   #piñapower   #dannyjansen   #kengiles   #samgaviglio   #canada

Anthony Alford 2019 Teams: Gulf Coast Blue Jays (Rehab) Buffalo Bisons (AAA) Toronto Blue Jays (MLB) 2019 MLB Stats: PA: 30 BA: .179 OBP: .233 SLG: .286 H: 5 R: 3 RBI: 1 HR: 1 2B: 0 3B: 0 BB: 1 SO: 11 SB: 2 2019 was once again the same story got Anthony Alford. He simply could not battle through the injury bug, and barely got into any action in the majors, only receiving a September call up. Alford also didn’t play that well in Triple A, only hitting .259 with seven homers. This was the third straight year where Alford struggled, and his clock is ticking with the Blue Jays. He has been up with the team at least once throughout the past three seasons, but has failed to make a good impression. In fairness to Alford, this year he was not given much of a chance, as he was stuck in a crowded outfield, and was behind Lourdes Gurriel Jr, Randal Grichuk, Teoscar Hernandez, Billy McKinney, Derek Fisher and Jonathan Davis on the depth chart. However, while it all sounds bad for Alford, there was a silver lining. In late September, in a 14th inning game, Alford hit a walk off home run against the Baltimore Orioles, which just happened to be his first career home run. So, there was some good that came out of this season for Alford. Outlook for next season: It doesn’t look good for Alford heading into next season. He’s out of options, and has clearly fallen out of favour with the new management. The former top prospect may be lucky to get through the winter on the Blue Jays roster, and he will have his work cut out for him next spring if he wants to make the team. Right now, it doesn’t look good. Well...it was quite a season. I’d like to thank everyone who has and will continue to stick with this team through the rebuild. We won only 67 games, but so much went right it seems. There were so many great moments - Bichette’s debut and his broken records, Biggio’s cycle, Grichuk‘s go-ahead grand slam against Baltimore a couple weeks ago, Alford’s walk-off homer in extras, Bichette’s walk off homer, the series in Seattle where the Jays fans from BC swarmed into T-Mobile Park (I was there)...the list goes on and on. So many young guys - Bichette, Biggio, Gurriel Jr, Guerrero Jr, Hernandez, McGuire, Waguespack, Zeuch all made big steps forward during the season and have given us all kinds of hope in the future. By the end of the season I really felt that all we needed was pitching - but next year will bring us Zeuch, Kay, Pearson along with most of our starters and relievers from this season. In the field, I hope it’s all the same. Gurriel, Hernandez and Grichuk give us a very good outfield with a lot of power. Guerrero Jr, Bichette, Biggio and Tellez is going to be the best infield in the MLB in three years, and Reese McGuire will be very, very good. Next year will be even more fun. Can’t wait for a full season of that young infield, Pearson, potential massive breakouts from Tellez (40 homer potential), Grichuk (if he can stay consistent - which I’m sure he will figure out - he could be a .260 guy with 40 homers), Hernandez (better IQ as a batter - could hit 30 dingers and could be a great leadoff guy) and Thornton (who I could see becoming a No.1-2 guy in a rotation). Hope everyone enjoyed this season as much as I did, can’t wait for next season! - #bluejays   #jays   #toronto   #gojays   #gobluejays   #gojaysgo   #canadasteam   #letsgobluejays   #letsgojays   #torontobluejays   #6ix   #rogerscentre   #mlb   #baseball   #mlbbaseball   #grichuk   #randalgrichuk   #dereklaw   #brockstewart   #boknows   #bobichette   #vladimirguerrerojr   #cavanbiggio   #lourdesgurrieljr   #piñapower   #dannyjansen   #kengiles   #samgaviglio   #canada

Well everyone, that does it for the 2019 Toronto Blue Jays season. The Blue Jays finished off the year with an 8-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays today, bring their record on the season to 67-95. The Jays finished fourth in the A.L. East, and secured the fifth overall pick in the 2020 Draft, as they finished with the fifth worst record in the league. Today’s highlights included Teoscar Hernandez blasting his 26th home run of the season, and Breyvic Valera hitting his first career major league homer. However, the day belonged to Justin Smoak, as in what was likely his final game as a Blue Jay, he hit two doubles, and walked off the field to a huge standing ovation after being pinch ran for after his second double. If this really is it for Smoak, it will be an end to a five year tenure in Toronto which includes many highs and lows, including his 38 homer, all star year in 2017. While the Blue Jays record doesn’t suggest that it was a good year, we knew that this was likely to be the story of the year, that it would be about the growth of the young players. We got to witness the excitement of seeing Vladimir Guerrero Jr, Bo Bichette and Cavan Biggio make their big league debuts, and show that they belong in the big leagues. We saw improvement from guys like Lourdes Gurriel Jr, Danny Jansen, Reese McGuire and Trent Thornton. Along the way, we witnessed the departure of two homegrown pitchers who were huge parts of the playoff teams, Marcus Stroman and Aaron Sanchez, while also seeing veterans like Freddy Galvis, Eric Sogard, Daniel Hudson, David Phelps and Joe Biagini moved out of town. While it was exciting to see all the kids, Blue Jay fans were forced to suffer through seeing Socrates Brito and Alen Hanson receive at bats early in the year, and see the team get no hit for the first five innings for seemingly every game in April. Safe to say, it’s been a year full of ups and downs. Either today or tomorrow, I will announce the plan for this account in the offseason. The Blue Jays end their season the right way with a win! The offence - Smoak, Hernandez and Valera - were outstanding today, and Buchholz went five strong innings, allowing one run. The Jays picked up the win last night, led by an outstanding performance once again from Trent Thornton, who one-hit the Rays through five innings of work. If not for a 37-pitch first inning jam, he would have went further into the ballgame, but once again our bullpen was great. Jason Adam, Buddy Boshers, Derek Law and Ken Giles all had scoreless appearances. Gaviglio gave up one run. The Jays got to Yarbrough in the first inning - Hernandez hit a leadoff homer, Grichuk hit an RBI triple to score Biggio, and then Tellez cashed Grichuk in. In 5 September starts, Thornton has allowed more than one run only once. Buddy Boshers has not allowed a run in 10 straight appearances. Jason Adam has not allowed any runs in his last 8 appearances, and Giles has allowed one in his past 8. Last game of the season is in 3 hours, Buchholz (uh oh) takes on Blake Snell. - #bluejays   #jays   #toronto   #gojays   #gobluejays   #gojaysgo   #canadasteam   #letsgobluejays   #letsgojays   #torontobluejays   #6ix   #rogerscentre   #mlb   #baseball   #mlbbaseball   #grichuk   #randalgrichuk   #dereklaw   #brockstewart   #boknows   #bobichette   #vladimirguerrerojr   #cavanbiggio   #lourdesgurrieljr   #piñapower   #dannyjansen   #kengiles   #samgaviglio

Don’t know what kinda heat I’ll get for this but I have Jason Adam at 7 on my pitcher rankings. Four elbow surgeries later, he’s authored an ERA just above 3 and a WHIP just above 1. Kinda amazing that he still hits 94. He’s had some rough stretches but I think he’s underrated for sure and the numbers are good. He’s done what he’s needed to do and he’s got better numbers than most of the bullpen (including Gaviglio, Font, Shafer who I think have been very good for the most part). - #bluejays   #jays   #toronto   #gojays   #gobluejays   #gojaysgo   #canadasteam   #letsgobluejays   #letsgojays   #torontobluejays   #6ix   #rogerscentre   #mlb   #baseball   #mlbbaseball   #grichuk   #randalgrichuk   #dereklaw   #brockstewart   #boknows   #bobichette   #vladimirguerrerojr   #cavanbiggio   #lourdesgurrieljr   #piñapower   #dannyjansen   #kengiles   #samgaviglio   #adam   #jasonadam

The Blue Jays take the series against the Orioles! Jacob Waguespack was OUTSTANDING, throwing for 6 shutout innings. Rowdy Tellez hit two homers as well, and for the first time I’ve got 2 Players Of The Game. The offence other than Tellez was quiet (maybe because our hottest hitter, and our best hitter both sat?), and Romano was roughed up again. Adam (7th), Font (one out in the 8th) and Giles (9th) got the job done, as usual. The Jays have a day off before taking on the red hot Rays for the final three games. Too bad the season is ending, it’s been a lot of fun despite the losing record. This is most likely Waguespack’s last start of the year, and it was great to see him do so well especially after having a rough past few outings. - #bluejays   #jays   #toronto   #gojays   #gobluejays   #gojaysgo   #canadasteam   #letsgobluejays   #letsgojays   #torontobluejays   #6ix   #rogerscentre   #mlb   #baseball   #mlbbaseball   #grichuk   #randalgrichuk   #dereklaw   #brockstewart   #boknows   #bobichette   #vladimirguerrerojr   #cavanbiggio   #lourdesgurrieljr   #piñapower   #dannyjansen   #kengiles   #samgaviglio

#The   BlueJays Have Recalled RHP YennsyDiaz, Selected the Contract of RHP RyanDull and Placed OF LourdesGurrielJr on the 60-Day #InjuredList   #TorontoBlueJays   #RosterMoves

The Blue Jays announced a series of roster moves today. Yennsy Diaz has been recalled from Double A New Hampshire, and he will likely make his second career major league appearance this week. Diaz, 22, has enjoyed a solid season with the Fisher Cats, pitching to a 3.74 ERA. However, his lone major league appearance did not go well, as he was charged with two runs and four walks in two thirds of an inning. Diaz is ranked as the 23rd best prospect in the Blue Jays system, and he will get a chance to get into some major league action before the end of the season. Relief pitcher Ryan Dull also had his contract selected from the Buffalo Bisons. Dull was claimed off of waivers by the Blue Jays last week but was then quickly designated for assignment without appearing in a single game. He will get a chance to pitch in the majors for his third different team this year, though he will likely be removed from Toronto’s 40 Man Roster again in the offseason. In order to free up a 40 Man spot for Dull, Lourdes Gurriel Jr was transferred to the 60 Day IL. This was purely a procedural move, as Gurriel had already been ruled out for the final week of the season. Jacob Waguespack gets the ball tonight as the Jays look to win the series against Baltimore. Let’s go Blue Jays! #bluejays   #mlb   #buffalobisons   #newhampshirefishercats   #yennsydiaz   #ryandull   #lourdesgurrieljr   #jacobwaguespack

Awwh @yunitogurriel @19boknows #bobichette   #lourdesgurrieljr

Yesterday’s final score. Don’t know what to really say, the pitching sucked again. Brock Stewart has Edwin Jackson numbers now as his ERA sits just below 10. Tough outings for Font, Pannone and Gaviglio as well, who all gave up multiple runs. Perhaps it’s fatigue from last night, but Brock Stewart has no excuse there. You’ve gotta be better than a 9.80 ERA - even Clayton Richard wasn’t that bad. To make it all even weirder, Derek Fisher was the one Blue Jay to homer last night. Tellez did have two hits though...but Derek Fisher was our best offensive player??? Waguespack takes the hill today, let’s win this series. Or at least not give up 8+ runs for the fourth straight game. - #bluejays   #jays   #toronto   #gojays   #gobluejays   #gojaysgo   #canadasteam   #letsgobluejays   #letsgojays   #torontobluejays   #6ix   #rogerscentre   #mlb   #baseball   #mlbbaseball   #grichuk   #randalgrichuk   #dereklaw   #brockstewart   #boknows   #bobichette   #vladimirguerrerojr   #cavanbiggio   #lourdesgurrieljr   #piñapower   #dannyjansen   #kengiles   #samgaviglio

Lourdes Gurriel Jr needs his appendix removed, and will miss the rest of the year. He had a very, very good campaign after being demoted due to defensive issues, where he moved from infield to LF and was a very good defender with an incredible arm. He totalled a .277 BA with 20 homers in 84 games - I’m really excited for him in the future, he could be a lot like Jose Bautista was - #bluejays   #jays   #toronto   #gojays   #gobluejays   #gojaysgo   #canadasteam   #letsgobluejays   #letsgojays   #torontobluejays   #6ix   #rogerscentre   #mlb   #baseball   #mlbbaseball   #grichuk   #randalgrichuk   #dereklaw   #brockstewart   #boknows   #bobichette   #vladimirguerrerojr   #cavanbiggio   #lourdesgurrieljr   #piñapower   #dannyjansen   #kengiles   #samgaviglio

Blue Jays outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr will miss the final five games of the season after having his appendix removed. Gurriel had just returned to the active roster after a quad injury had kept him sidelined for a month. All in all, this will go down as a very productive season for the 25 year old, despite the year coming to a premature end. Lourdes slashed .277/.327/.541 with 20 homers and 50 RBIs and, perhaps most significantly, put his defensive woes behind him with a move to left field, where he showed off his tremendous athleticism and very strong arm. Lourdes Gurriel Jr took a huge step forward in his second year in the big leagues, and we will likely see him manning left field and hitting near the top of Toronto’s batting order for many years to come. #bluejays   #mlb   #lourdesgurrieljr

Last night, Randal Grichuk was named the Blue Jays’ nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award, which is given to the player who “best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement and the individual’s contribution to his team”. I support this 110%, as I think so many more people need to look at how Grichuk is and be like that. He’s not the best, but he’s a great player. Every time he steps up to the plate for the first time, he interacts with the umpire and the catcher before the at-bat, not sure exactly what he does but I’ve seen it and it is certainly positive. Many people, including Blue Jays management, have highly praised his leadership, his commitment and how he is as a teammate. When he got hurt last year and spent a few weeks on the DL, he spent his time training his eyes so he can track the ball better. Every time he hits the baseball, whether a homer or a ground ball right to the shortstop, he’s always running hard to first. Not admiring his home run, not flipping his bat. He’s always giving it his best effort out there, we’re really lucky to have him for another five years. - #bluejays   #jays   #toronto   #gojays   #gobluejays   #gojaysgo   #canadasteam   #letsgobluejays   #letsgojays   #torontobluejays   #6ix   #rogerscentre   #mlb   #baseball   #mlbbaseball   #grichuk   #randalgrichuk   #dereklaw   #brockstewart   #boknows   #bobichette   #vladimirguerrerojr   #cavanbiggio   #lourdesgurrieljr   #piñapower   #dannyjansen   #kengiles   #samgaviglio   #robertoclementeaward

ANTHONY ALFORD IS THE HERO IN THE 15TH INNING as the Blue Jays win a MARATHON against the Orioles!!! Have to say, our bullpen did another fantastic job. Law and Romano both gave up runs, but after another lackluster performance from Buchholz (6 ER in 4 innings), the bullpen gave up 4 in 11 innings. Pannone, Gaviglio, Tepera, Romano, Giles, Boshers x2 and Adam all pitched one scoreless inning. I was really happy with Buddy Boshers’ performance, he’s actually been quite good lately, and after pitching 2 solid innings I’m gaining a lot of respect and trust in him. He and Pannone are our only two left-handed bullpen pitchers after Mayza’s injury (he will likely be out all of next year because of Tommy John surgery). Randal Grichuk stays hot, he hit his 31st home run of the season in the first inning. He’s now up to 5 homers in his last 8 games as well as hits in 15 of his last 16. Anthony Kay (likely opened by Font) and Dylan Bundy will take the hill today for their respective teams. The Jays’ bullpen is in good shape, as I’m guessing Luciano, Stewart, Font (who didn’t pitch last night) and perhaps Gaviglio, Pannone and Giles (one clean inning last night) are probably available. Oh yeah, and another clean inning from the 🐐 @sam_gaviglio_fanpage - #bluejays   #jays   #toronto   #gojays   #gobluejays   #gojaysgo   #canadasteam   #letsgobluejays   #letsgojays   #torontobluejays   #6ix   #rogerscentre   #mlb   #baseball   #mlbbaseball   #grichuk   #randalgrichuk   #dereklaw   #brockstewart   #boknows   #bobichette   #vladimirguerrerojr   #cavanbiggio   #lourdesgurrieljr   #piñapower   #dannyjansen   #kengiles   #samgaviglio

The Blue Jays fell again to the Yankees, 8-3 this time. Pitching was an issue again, as Wilmer Font - who has been very good in the opener role this year - got shelled for 4 in the first inning and the Jays were unable to catch up after that. Billy McKinney gets my Player Of The Game and it wasn’t close. No other Blue Jay recorded more than two total bases (as in how many bases they get directly from their hit, e.g. double = 2, HR = 4), and McKinney had 8. Randal Grichuk had two base hits, he’s now got hits in 14 of his last 15 games. The Jays’ bullpen after Thornton (who wasn’t great today) held up, as Adam and Boshers both managed to not give up a run. Biggio and Grichuk were both lifted for replacements, and Bichette is still out - at this point of the season it may be best for our three infielders, as well as Gurriel, to be shut down for the year to give some other guys (Davis, Alford, Ureña, Valera) playing time in the few remaining games. - - #bluejays   #jays   #toronto   #gojays   #gobluejays   #gojaysgo   #canadasteam   #letsgobluejays   #letsgojays   #torontobluejays   #6ix   #rogerscentre   #mlb   #baseball   #mlbbaseball   #grichuk   #randalgrichuk   #dereklaw   #brockstewart   #boknows   #bobichette   #vladimirguerrerojr   #cavanbiggio   #lourdesgurrieljr   #piñapower   #dannyjansen   #kengiles   #samgaviglio

The Blue Jays lose for the first time in 6 games. I’ll jump right to it, Brock Stewart was atrocious, allowing 4 earned runs in one inning of work (Sam Gaviglio next time, PLEASE). As great as the bullpen had been lately - and still is, as in the other 4 innings they only gave up one run - this can kill you, and it did today. Although the Jays didn’t score enough runs to recover had Stewart’s 4 runs never have happened, it was a momentum shift for sure. TJ Zeuch gets my player of the game nod, as although he did surrender two runs, he had 6 strikeouts in 4 innings, in what I’d consider a pretty good outing. Wasn’t a fan of pulling him that early (I believe it was 70 pitches) especially after how Stewart performed after taking over, but I’d imagine they’re managing his load which is ultimately the best decision. Luke Maile made his return to the lineup - he hadn’t played since late July, as he was out with an oblique injury. Randal Grichuk now has an extra base hit in 11 of his last 13 games. I should probably add that Canadian James Paxton was incredible for the Yankees, allowing one run off of three hits through six innings. Tomorrow, the red-cheeked, red-hot Trent Thornton will take on Yankees ace Luis Severino, who will make his second appearance of the season, after going 4 innings with no runs a few days back. - #bluejays   #jays   #toronto   #gojays   #gobluejays   #gojaysgo   #canadasteam   #letsgobluejays   #letsgojays   #torontobluejays   #6ix   #rogerscentre   #mlb   #baseball   #mlbbaseball   #grichuk   #randalgrichuk   #dereklaw   #brockstewart   #boknows   #bobichette   #vladimirguerrerojr   #cavanbiggio   #lourdesgurrieljr   #piñapower   #dannyjansen   #kengiles   #samgaviglio

The Blue Jays take their 5th game in a row, and the series opener against the Yankees! Jansen, Hernandez and Smoak led the way offensively, Jansen and Smoak (eventual game winning 2 run shot) both homered, Hernandez has a double and a triple. Another outstanding performance from our bullpen, as through four innings, Jason Adam, Buddy Boshers, Sam Gaviglio (the GOAT @sam_gaviglio_fanpage), Derek Law and Ken Giles combined for only two hits allowed (Law), and no runs. Jansen is my player of the game choice, over Smoak due to his outstanding pickoff at second base after a strikeout. Do NOT run on the Blue Ja-actually keep doing it since they always catch you 😂 - #bluejays   #jays   #toronto   #gojays   #gobluejays   #gojaysgo   #canadasteam   #letsgobluejays   #letsgojays   #torontobluejays   #6ix   #rogerscentre   #mlb   #baseball   #mlbbaseball   #grichuk   #randalgrichuk   #dereklaw   #brockstewart   #boknows   #bobichette   #vladimirguerrerojr   #cavanbiggio   #lourdesgurrieljr   #piñapower   #dannyjansen   #kengiles   #samgaviglio

The Blue Jays have swept the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. The offense exploded, @cb_2_3 hit his 15th 💣 of the year, @yunitogurriel hit his 20th HR of the year. Biggio had 3 RBIs, @vladdyjr27 had 2 RBIs, so did @yunitogurriel he now has 50 on the season. @tonybuckets23 got his first win of his career going 4 innings after, @wilmerfont opened the game. Great game from the Jays as they continue to stay red hot and are now 7-3 in there last 10 games. Player Of The Game: Cavan Biggio. #cavanbiggio   #lourdesgurrieljr   #vladjr   #anthonykay   #wilmerfont   #jayswin   #letsgobluejays   #torontobluejays   #jaysnation   #thatsasweep   #redhot   #mlb

The Blue Jays complete the sweep of the Baltimore Orioles! I’ve got two Players Of The Game, Biggio and Gurriel - both hit home runs, and combined to drive in 5. Anthony Kay picks up his first MLB win after allowing 2 runs through 4 innings! The win was not without casualty, as Bo Bichette took a pitch to the helmet and was precautionarily removed. Hope he’s alright. - #bluejays   #jays   #toronto   #gojays   #gobluejays   #gojaysgo   #canadasteam   #letsgobluejays   #letsgojays   #torontobluejays   #6ix   #rogerscentre   #mlb   #baseball   #mlbbaseball   #grichuk   #randalgrichuk   #dereklaw   #brockstewart   #boknows   #bobichette   #vladimirguerrerojr   #cavanbiggio   #lourdesgurrieljr   #piñapower

Randal Grichuk Born: August 13, 1991 in Rosenberg, Texas Acquired: Traded to the Toronto Blue Jays on January 19, 2018, by the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for Dominic Leone and Connor Greene. Position: Outfielder Bats: Right Throws: Right On 40 Man Roster: Yes Current Team: Toronto Blue Jays (MLB) 2019 Stats: PA: 581 BA: .235 OBP: .284 SLG: .455 H: 127 RBI: 71 HR: 28 2B: 27 3B: 4 BB: 34 SO: 153 SB: 2 Randal Grichuk excites a lot of people, but he may frustrate just as many, if not more. Acquired in the winter before the 2018 season, Grichuk has brought a legitimate power threat to the Blue Jays, and so far this season has blasted a career high 28 home runs. However, with those homers brings a number of strikeouts, and Grichuk has sported a batting average in the .230s this whole season. However, the Toronto front office is clearly sold on him, as they handed the outfielder a five year/$52 million contract at the beginning of this season. While Grichuk is a solid player, this seemed like quite an odd time to hand him an extension, and he hasn’t exactly lived up to it like most fans thought he might. He has taken a jump forward this year, and he has a legitimate shot at 30 home runs. The Blue Jays have a glut of outfielders fighting for playing time, but Grichuk and Lourdes Gurriel seem to have locked down spots for several years to come. Also, despite only being 28, Grichuk seems likely to be one of, if not the oldest position players on the team next season (barring any offseason additions). If he can continue to increase his home run totals, and get his average to at least around .250, the contract will begin to look a lot better. Personally, I will say that Randal is one of my favourite players on the Blue Jays. #bluejays   #cardinals   #mlb   #randalgrichuk   #lourdesgurrieljr   #dominicleone

It is as we all feared. Tim Mayza has torn his UCL, and he will undergo Tommy John Surgery. This is absolutely devastating news for the young man. The injury occurred last night, on a 3-2 pitch to Didi Gregorius, where Mayza‘s pitch got away from him and went all the way to the backstop. Mayza will miss the rest of this season and all of 2020. Hopefully Tim will be ready for spring training in 2021. This is such a sad occurrence for Mayza, who had really carved out a role in the Toronto bullpen and looked like a lock for the Blue Jays’ roster in 2020. Mayza is still only 27, so hopefully he will be able to come back and pitch at a high level again. Good luck Tim, we will miss you. Side Note: Lourdes Gurriel Jr has indeed been activated for today’s game. He will bat third and DH. Gurriel has been out since August 8 with a quad injury. #bluejays   #mlb   #timmayza   #lourdesgurrieljr

The Blue Jays reportedly plan to activate Lourdes Gurriel Jr for tomorrow’s game, and have him play as the DH. Gurriel has been out since August 8 with a quad injury. When he has been healthy, the 25 year old has had a banner sophomore year, hitting .279/331/.548 with 19 homers. The pineapple will be a welcome return to the Toronto lineup, though it will take away even more playing time from guys such as Derek Fisher, Billy McKinney and Anthony Alford (not that they’re doing much with their playing time anyways). It’s good to have you back Lourdes! Side note: Tim Mayza sustained an injury tonight, and it looked to be serious. Mayza threw a wild pitch and immediately fell to the ground and grabbed his arm. Hopefully the injury isn’t as bad as it looks. This would be a devastating blow to a promising young pitcher who is really starting to make an mark in the big leagues. #bluejays   #mlb   #lourdesgurrieljr   #timmayza   #derekfisher   #billymckinney   #anthonyalford
